Thomas C Burns PhD
This is a solo private practice, allowing for a maximum level of personal attention for clients.
Having been a therapist for almost 45 years, I have acquired skills in the most effective therapeutic modalities currently seen by most therapists as being the most effective. Although diagnoses are required by those seeking reimbursement for services, the primary consideration in working with a client is not a classification that suggests a particular treatment approach, decisions about modality is made in response to the current needs and issues of the client at that time.

There are at least two things that age can actually enhance. They are psychotherapy and teaching. It has been my pleasure to do the first for 45 years, and the second for over 50.
While my teaching duties as an adjunct professor at a local university keep me current with the developing field of psychology, the clinical application of these findings makes them come alive. As a therapist, I am quite eclectic in my philosophy of treatment, selecting therapeutic modalities as the situation demands, but find certain approaches very powerful, Cognitive behavior therapy, NLP, narrative therapy, EMDR, and prolonged exposure therapy have all proven to be powerful applications when applied appropriately. While I could have retired quite a while ago, I have continued simply because there is just nothing that I would rather do.
